MUFFIN MEETINGS 2019
Morning talks are now from 10.30am-12.30pm!
In response to requests from our participants to Muffin Meetings, we have changed the times to accommodate the changes in Auckland transport. Many of our Muffin Meetings will now be in our Patterson Room (Cecilia Maher House).
The Patterson Room is a multipurpose room, which is named after Sr Majella and Elizabeth Patterson.
Sr Majella Patterson, Sister of Mercy Auckland and Miss Elizabeth (Betty) Patterson.
Sr Majella was a music teacher who taught music in a number of Mercy convents within the Auckland Diocese. Later in life Sr Majella came to live at Cecilia Maher House, Mercy Spiritual Life Centre (as it was known in the 1980s, 1990s) where parish life, hospitality and
gardening opened up a fulfilling and new ministry for her. She assisted with pastoral visits within the Epsom Catholic parish and enjoyed taking a few elderly friends to the local weekly Care and Craft gatherings held at St Andrews Anglican Church.
Sr Majella was sacristan at the Mercy Centre, looked after the dining room service, setting the fire in winter, providing restful music and arranging flowers grown in the convent gardens - all for the comfort and pleasure of sisters and retreatants. The dining room/ meeting room in Cecilia Maher House is named the Patterson Room after Sr Majella and her sister Elizabeth (Betty) Patterson who was a Mercy Associate and who supported Sr Majella in her work at the Centre and in the redevelopment of the facilities in 2000.
